The “Halligan” is a versatile tool, used by firefighters across the country. The tool was designed by, and named after FDNY Deputy Chief Hugh Halligan in 1948. The multipurpose tool consists of a claw, a wedge, and a tapered pick which is especially useful in quickly breaching many types of locked doors. When the tool is paired up with a flat head axe, together they are known as “The Irons”.
