I am marking 5 years of survivorship from a rare form of sarcoma, called Cardiac Angiosarcoma. When I was just a month into 24, I experienced a fainting or seizure episode which was not my first time being told I didn't need a brain MRI in the course of a few months of increased headaches. A month after that, my symptoms had progressed further to the point where my primary care doctor called me at 10 pm and told me to go to the ER to get checked out. Long story short, I had a brain tumor which was later found out to be a metastasis of the sarcoma and a small tumor on my mitral valve was spotted on an echocardiogram. 9 rounds of chemo and 2 months of specialized proton radiation to my heart and a global pandemic, my team decided it was time for a treatment break. 5 years later, I am still on that break and still have no evidence of disease.
Any amount helps to support research for better treatments and outcomes for sarcoma patients like myself. The odds said I would not be here today, 5 years later, but I am because of the advancement in medicine. Consider donating even just $5 in honor of 5 years in the hopes that another patient with sarcoma gets to live those 5 additional years.
