Ever since I was a child my heroes have been the doctors, technicians, and staff members who choose to work in the area of veterinary medicine. They have cared for my animals for over sixty years… and that’s a lot of animals 😉. I have come to know them at some of the best, and some of the very worst times of my life. They are my friends, counselors, teachers, and angels. As the “mom” of multiple pets, these are the folks who keep me sane and I, in turn, need to do the same for them and their brothers and sisters in the veterinary profession.❤️
Unfortunately, Veterinary professionals are at risk for mental health problems. Veterinary professionals are twice as likely to experience serious psychological distress and one and a half times as likely as the general public to have experienced depression. One in six veterinary professionals considers suicide. That’s three times the US national average. That’s a statistic we just cannot abide any longer.
As an organization NOMV aims to not only provide online peer to peer support, but provide members of the profession with the education and tools they need to fight this battle. Afterall, none of us are alone in this struggle. We are ALL ONE
