I've walked all my life: from the streets of San José, Costa Rica, to Manhattan, to Providence, to my home for almost 15 years, Somerville, Mass. We have an awesome, compact city with lots of people who love to walk and a great Community Path, but also plenty of dangerous intersections and streets where parents rightly worry about letting their kids walk alone.
That's why I joined the board of WalkMassachusetts, and that's why I've formed a team for Beat the Bay State: Somervillens. Whether you walk 10 miles or 100 between Nov. 1 and 30, you can help raise funds for a fantastic organization -- and raise awareness of the importance of safe, accessible pedestrian infrastructure and streets where people are valued more than cars. Can't/don't want to join the "race"? Please DONATE without signing up! Every dollar makes a difference.
