BRAWL 2024 ☘️ - Adventure Race Training

Sat March 16 - Sun March 17 Santa Cruz, CA 95060 US

Equipment

Plan on paddling, mountain biking and trekking in some of the most amazing terrain in the world.

MANDITORY GEAR:
The below PDF is a standard ARWS mandatory gear list.
All gear marked with a green checkmark is required gear for the Training Event. We have marked with red strike thru text gear that is not mandatory for this race; you may bring it if you desire, but it is optional.

You will be responsible for bringing and securing your own gear. As we get closer to the race day, we will share any known transition areas that you may pass by your car for a food/water/gear swap - however they will be minimal; plan to carry with you most of your needed food/water/gear.

LOCKS:
You will leave your boats and bikes unattended and overnight, so be sure to bring (2) locks, one for the boat and one for the bike. Again, we are not responsible for your equipment and everything is leave at your own risk.

WATER:
There will be creeks and areas to filter water and public fountains. Make sure to bring a water filter or tablets for purification. Make sure you have large water capacity, because there can be stretches without access.

KAYAKS:
You will need to provide your own kayaks, paddles, and PFDs. If you don't own a boat, ask around if you can borrow one (we have a great community on Facebook), or you can (preferably) rent at Kayak Connection (at the Harbor). We will be on open ocean waters so you will need an ocean worthy vessel. We recommend wearing a wetsuit. Be sure to bring your PFD. Safety First! If weather conditions make the paddle section unsafe, we will have an alternate land (non-kayak) section of additional bike or trek.

BIKES:
You will need to provide your own mountain bikes. Hard tail or full suspension will work; your preference on gear. BRING BIKE LIGHTS FRONT AND REAR.

GENERAL SAFETY:
Expect temperatures from 30F to the 65F and always prepare for wind and rain.

Be sure to download google maps or any other mapping app you like in case you want to bail and need biking directions back to the car. If you use GPS for the course, you're cheating, and we play by the honor system out here :)
