ABOUT US AND OUR GOAL

Citizens EMS Don't Run with Scissors Color Fun Run: Supporting Our Community and Resiliency Program

Join us for the Citizens EMS Don't Run with Scissors Color Fun Run—a vibrant event aimed at supporting our first Resiliency Program initiative, while celebrating our 49 years of dedicated service to the community!

About Us

Established in 1976, Citizens EMS has proudly served as a cornerstone of emergency medical services in our rural community. Located just 20 minutes east of Abilene, Texas, we began as a volunteer service and attained non-profit status in 1998. Over the years, we have evolved into a paid employee ambulance service, currently employing 8 full-time and several part-time staff members. Serving over 700 square miles of Callahan County, we respond to a variety of emergencies, including motor vehicle accidents and medical crises, across Interstate I-20 and multiple state highways.

Our commitment extends beyond emergency responses. We actively engage in promoting community health and safety through volunteer initiatives, wellness checks, and educational programs. Our "Stop the Bleed" training prepares staff and local school personnel to assist students before EMS arrives, and in collaboration with our RAC, we provide bicycle safety education and free helmets for children.

Our Goal

As a non-profit organization, funding is essential to our operation. Annual events like our Color Fun Run and Open House play a crucial role in sustaining our services. The proceeds from this fun run will help support station maintenance, ambulance upkeep, and equipment acquisition. Importantly, any surplus funds will be directed toward our first Resiliency Program initiative—aiming to enhance our community first responders support resources and preparedness.

This initiative seeks to build a more resilient first responder community by providing essential training and resources, ensuring that our residents are both informed and equipped to handle emergencies effectively. The generosity of our community has already made a significant impact, allowing us to purchase portable radios and contribute to an emergency generator project in partnership with the City of Clyde.
