This exciting event is held entirely on the Gaylord campus and helps to underwrite various outreach programs, including the Gaylord Sports Association, which provides adaptive sports to wounded veterans and individuals with physical and visual disabilities. The Sports Association offers 15 different sports and is Connecticut’s largest adaptive sports program. Participants enjoy activities that are provided to them at low or no cost, such as golf, snow skiing, adaptive cycling, archery, water skiing, and adaptive rock climbing, or team sports such as wheelchair rugby, tennis, and sled hockey. These activities, which are vital to a person’s psychological and social well-being, are not reimbursed by insurance. The Sports Association’s existence and ability to provide these activities is possible only through fundraising.
In past years, proceeds from the Gauntlet have provided funds to purchase sit skis, recumbent bikes, wheelchair rugby chairs, team uniforms, competition registrations, membership in Disabled Sports USA, transportation, instruction, and staffing — all important to helping our participants thrive through adaptive sports.
Your partnership is central to helping Gaylord fulfill its mission to enhance health, maximize function, and transform lives. On behalf of the people we serve, thank you for your support.
