Patoka Lake is seeking donations to help raise funds for our non-releasable educational ambassador bird of prey: a red-tailed hawk. This bird is used to educate school groups, community organizations, visitors of Patoka Lake, and visitors at the Indiana State Fair. The monetary donations would support the medical costs, daily care, and a building fund for updating the bird shelter.
Our overall goal is to construct new shelters for our ambassador bird to enhance his quality of life and provide enrichment as well as enhancing the visitor experience. The new shelter will be attached to the existing Nature Center building, which will allow the shelter to be ADA accessible. This will create better access for all guests to enjoy a closer look at the bird. We will also be able to have the bird on display daily and not just on scheduled days.
