Description
The 2025 Grass Roots Distance Summit will be Saturday, June 21 at Avon High School. This is a continuation / progression of distance coaches getting together to talk shop in a one-day clinic format. We'll utilize the Avon High School facilities for speaker talks and roundtable discussions, including some learn-by-doing presentations as well. Breakfast and lunch will be provided, and each attendee will receive a GRDS t-shirt (if registered by 6/11/25) as well as speaker notes.
We've got a great lineup! Summit schedule and speakers are below:
8:00-8:30 a.m. - Registration / Breakfast (bagels & cream cheese from Big Apple Bagels, bananas, coffee)
8:30-9:30 a.m. - Zach Evans, Edgewood High School - Tips for Managing Successful Teams
9:40-10:40 a.m. - Jacob Crow, Tempo Sports Rehab - Lower Leg Injuries: Why a Performance Approach May Reduce Injuries and Increase Running Performance
10:50-11:50 a.m. - Roundtables led by Zach Toothman (Avon HS), Gabe Porras (Zionsville HS), Matt Toothman (South Knox HS)
12:00-12:30 p.m. - Lunch (Greek's Pizza)
12:30-2:00 p.m. - Geoff Wayton, DePaul University - Under the L: Coaching Distance Runners to Succeed in a Tough Environment
2:10-3:10 p.m. - Chris Stevenson & Craig Ray, Avon High School - Find A Way: Making Strength & Speed a Cornerstone of Your XC Program
3:20-4:20 p.m. - Roundtables led by Zach Toothman (Avon HS), Gabe Porras (Zionsville HS), Matt Toothman (South Knox HS)
4:30-5:30 p.m. - Rick Sluder, Columbus North - The When and How of Implementing Change in Coaching
We'll also have a post-summit social (with food provided) off-campus in Plainfield, right of I-70, a 12 minute drive south from Avon HS and just over a mile from a number of hotels for those that want to stick around and continue the conversations or just hang out.
