Description
Join Fleet Feet and ASICS for the Blue Jean Mile — a community-focused event to raise awareness about mental health resources and advocacy.
The Blue Jean Mile is just as it sounds — run or walk a mile in a pair of blue jeans. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Washtenaw County will be on-site to speak about the organization, mental health resources, and how they support communities.
The Blue Jean Mile started in 2020 when professional ASICS runner Johnny Gregorek decided he was going to break the record for the fastest mile run in blue jeans. He was doing this in honor of his late brother, Patrick, who lost his life to suicide in 2019 after living with mental illness. This has become a powerful event demonstrating the importance of community and conversation about mental health.
Running or walking in a pair of jeans can be uncomfortable. So can talking about mental health. Moving through that discomfort and talking about mental health can allow people around you to support you and be a step forward on the path towards healing. The Blue Jean Mile is about moving through the discomfort in community with each other and serves as a reminder that we are not alone.
Whether walking, running, or showing support, ALL are welcome! Grab your blue jeans and your running shoes and join us as we move together for mental health!
