About Run for the Zoo

Started in 1978, Run for the Zoo is one of the longest-running races in Chicago. Run for the Zoo is a must-do on local race calendars! This beloved family-friendly tradition for runners and walkers alike supports Lincoln Park Zoo, the nation’s only privately managed free-admission zoo. Every race registration and fundraising page helps the zoo save species near and far, all while remaining free and open to the public, 365 days a year.

Run for the Zoo is a highly engaging race that includes a 10K Run, 5K Run, 5K Walk, and Kids’ Course for children ages 3-8. The flat-surface 5K and 10K race courses are chip-timed and U.S.A. Track & Field-certified, taking you through scenic areas of the zoo including Nature Boardwalk, along Lake Michigan, and into Lincoln Park, all with the Chicago skyline as your backdrop.

Whether you’re a veteran racer or new to a 5K/10K, Run for the Zoo is an open, inviting, and supportive event. It connects you to a community of other Lincoln Park Zoo fans raising money for a reason: saving species.

All participants receive a tech-blend shirt with the year’s animal theme. For a donation of $25 or more, you can also receive a unique Supporter Medal. All Kids’ Course participants also receive a T-shirt and Kids’ Course medal.
