Our Story
Meg Busing spent her college summers volunteering at a California camp for kids with cancer and their siblings. Witnessing the profound impact it had on children affected by chronic illness, she made it her mission to bring that life-affirming experience to children with epilepsy throughout the Midwest.
Meg, along with her husband Kael, founded Camp YouCan in 2011 — the first and only camp of its kind in Nebraska. As the flagship program of the Midwest YouCan Foundation, Camp YouCan helps campers step out of their comfort zone in a fun, safe environment — all while surrounded by other campers who understand the day-to-day challenges of living with epilepsy.
Since 2011, the Midwest YouCan Foundation has also created many other opportunities for not only kids, but also teens, adults, and families impacted by epilepsy. Whether through our monthly women's group, family days, Embrace Epilepsy Day in Western Nebraska, or community education, the foundation continues to be a source of hope, belonging, and opportunities for individuals to see all that they can do despite their epilepsy.
