Canoe Leg

Equipment
The canoe leg may either be completed in a one man or a two man canoe, depending on category. For those entered in the Individual division or teams with only two racers, you will be allowed to use either a one man canoe or a kayak. You must know how to use the equipment you race with. Coast Guard approved life jackets must be properly worn during this leg of the race. All life jackets are subject to inspection, and if found to be unfit, can lead to the disqualification of the participant and/or the team. No water ski belts will be allowed. No electric bilge pumps will be allowed. There must be one whistle per water craft. All canoeists are required to wear shoes that are either strapped or laced on. No flip flops or bare feet are allowed. Also wear appropriate clothing for the weather and bring water to prevent dehydration. Event organizers are not responsible for any belongings left at race sites.
Canoe Drop-off
It is recommended that paddlers have their boats and other equipment staging needs completed before the Pre-Race meeting at the City Beach starting point. All boats will be lined up in the sand close to the boat dock.
Directions
From Whitefish, head North on Baker Ave over the viaduct. At the light, turn left on Edgewood Place. Edgewood will curve and turn into Washington Ave. Arrive at City Beach.
The Course
Starting by the dock at Gazebo #3 paddle to the Whitefish River and go down stream to the turn around before the culverts and head back to the same dock area by Gazebo #3.
Parking
Parking at City Beach will need to be in the neighborhood streets as the main City Beach parking area will be a race transition area.
Pre-race Meeting
There will be a pre-race meeting at 6:30 AM at City Beach for all competitors. The meeting will provide participants with the most up-to-date information on the race course and a review of all safety precautions. IT IS MANDATORY FOR All PARTICIPANTS TO ATTEND THIS MEETING. The buses leave at 7am and The Glacier Challenge begins with the 8 mile run leg at 8:00 AM.
Timing
It is important for all participants to have their race bib visible for timekeepers to see. The timing chip is an ankle bracelet which needs to be returned after the race. You should only cross a timing mat when finishing a leg.
